I loved this post! Wombats, Who Knew? Thank you for sharing your research with us. I never knew that there is a calendar until recently that talks about each day having a celebration! I will take an animal or nature lesson any day of the week!
Wombat Writers Unite! Who knew we could protect our tender hearts while we burrow in deep with a bump of the rump?! I’ll forever have that image to make me laugh the negativity off and keep digging!
Wendy, I am so happy you enjoyed it and that the humor will help it stick with you. I crack up every time I think of it too. Such a hilarious super power! 💕
Oh my friend, this written with the Jacque-heart I've come to know and love. You write about life. And then there is that Jacque sense of humor....rumps and cubed poop. I laughed out loud. I am grateful for the way your writing touches all the significant life points. Thank you.
Thank you, Rebby! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. It warms my heart that you laughed out loud, even as you are grieving. I hope to see you more often and get the chance to see you smile and maybe even laugh. Take good care of you! Sending love and hugs your way!
I needed to read this today, Jacque! My inner critic is hard at work freezing my pen and typing fingers.
I will be fierce like one of my favorite creatures. Wombats are adorable! Their short, little legs are also similar to my own. I didn’t know about their backwards pouch, nor their extra strong booty! :) Thanks you for encouragement and a smile!😊
Love this post, Jacque! So clever and insightful. While squirrels have long held a sort of superpower for me, I think the wombat may just earn a spot too. I can’t claim the short legs, but my height offers a different gift—one of observation and description.
Capitalization is my ongoing rebellion against English convention. Proper nouns may be the rule, but I happily bend it for things I hold dear—like Seasons and Friends.
Those cube-shaped droppings sound uncomfortable, but maybe that’s the point—sometimes having staying power is uncomfortable. Growing—like those ever-lengthening teeth—takes work, especially for Writers who love to “chew on things.”
The power of the pivot is essential to evolution, and being tough helps—as long as we don’t stick our heads in the sand to avoid life. And that backward pouch—genius! When you spend your life burrowing into dirt, practicality rules. Who among us doesn’t occasionally find ourselves covered in life’s dirt—procrastination, doubt, or negativity?
You go, girl. This might be one of your best posts yet!
Oh, this is adorable. "If a wombat sat in a chair, she would have the same problem." This is so unique -educational and encouraging, Jacque. I'd dig and put my wombat rump high and submit this piece for publication in another place as well.
Jacque, Brilliant comparison. I laughed at your descriptions and the image of rumps swaying in A Writer's Room cracked me up. You are so encouraging in your writing.
I love the notion of Writers as Wombats. What a delightful comparison!
(Also, there are days that I cannot help but yell out, in the style of a certain mid-1990s techno song, "MORTAL WOMBAT!")
How fun! A song!

Thank you, Jacque! ☺️
Sorry that darn inner critic is trying to stir up trouble. Bat him away with that booty and delve into the rich reward that your creativity is. 💕
