Jacque, your photo is beautiful! What an inspiring place to live!
I usually write in my blue patchwork chair, where I sit for Zoom meetings, or at the kitchen table. I haven’t been more creative than that, but now I’m thinking of writing outside tonight on my porch, listening to the neighborhood noise.
I never knew pinecones pop either. My parents have a huge pine tree but I haven’t paid much attention to it. I should.
Your words are beautifully written and so inspiring. I have been extremely hesitant to establish an account to post my work, mostly because I'm a slacker. I love writing, but when it comes to putting my butt in the seat, I procrastinate like I'm about to serve a long prison sentence. However, your words are encouraging and have roused my motivation. Thank you for sharing such inciting words. Also, I was there with you and your dogs on the bed; great imagery and storytelling.
I want to hear the pine cones popping! Thank you for sharing about your places of inspiration- it’s an encouragement to stay alert to new ideas wherever I am.
Of course, loving mountains, I love this piece. The words and scenes are so true to the places in that kind of environment. Very special. I would love to know what kind of Pine Tree? Curious, you made me curious about different pines. I love that! The beginning is inspirational to me because I almost joined all of you last night but I wasn’t as brave as you were! I have a Substack and I have a couple of posts about ready to go… still didn’t! Thank you for inspiring words as well as a piece of writing I loved!
Jacque, I love the picture. What an inspirational view.
I write with my feet up on my daughter's old toy chest in the office that my husband, Bill, built for me forty years ago. My office window looks over Mt. Diablo, trees hiding all the development that has happened since we moved here fifty years ago. My Golden Retriever, Lucy, sleeps on our double bed (as in hers and mine) while I write. I hear the school children playing in the playground, listen to the calls of birds, and wonder at the noises the chickens make outside. This view has been my salvation over our lifetime in this house. I can't imagine any place to write that is more productive and satisfying than at my desk.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love the stunning photograph and the playful tone of this piece. The imagery you created as you describe your view transported me to both your indoor and outdoor spaces.
I usually write at my writer's desk in the room that used to be my oldest son's bedroom. I have filled it with family photos, plants, and some of my own creative projects. My daughter gave me a prism decal for the east-facing window. It sprinkles rainbows all around the room when the morning sun shines through it. Your descriptions of inspiration coming to you while walking and driving are so relatable! I, too, struggle with putting technology to good use for recording ideas when out and about.
What lovely images, @Caitlin Ellefson Spohrer! You are nestled among the treasures of the photos of your loved ones. The sprinkles of the light from the decal sound amazing! We are truly writing in an epic time, a revolutionary time, as Amie McNee described.
My writing nook is my desk with my computer. The fireplace is in front of me. To the right front is a view of the mountains. To my direct right, on the wall are some of my favorite photographs, post cards and souvenirs. To the front left is a different view of the mountains.
While I like the idea of handwriting in a beautiful journal, in actuality the computer with spell check, a thesaurus, google and the like is my preference.

Thank you for writing and sharing this.
Your creativity is with you wherever you go. That is one of the most miraculous things about it, imo.

…and I just went back to your full Substack and saw that curiosity is one of your reasons for your pieces! It worked!
Thank you! I’m determined to add more adventure, curiosity and play into my life as part of my creative recovery and growth.
The mountains truly call to me. I would love to know what kind of pine tree too. Lol. I still don’t know, but I love it all the same.
