Your descriptions of this utterly frustrating inability to tolerate heat are so spot on! I’m not happy at all that you’re experiencing this but I’m beyond thankful you describe it so well. We’re not just “sensitive to heat”, it’s actually debilitating. Thank you for this. I hope it’s read far and wide. Here’s to the cool down you need. Sending virtual high fives because it’s just too dang hot for a hug!
Great point! It is 100% debilitating. And I’m so sorry you deal with it too. High fives all around for both of us, for all of us, for being resilient, and for doing the best we can, moment by moment. 🥰
I felt every word, every thought, every emotion. I’m so glad that you have your husband, your friends, your dogs, the Writing Room, but most of all your beautiful writing.
Well done, Jacque! The conversational tone of your writing makes a complicated topic accessible and engaging to the reader. My experience with MS is minimal, though I have great compassion for you after observing my cousin living with MS. That was many years ago, so I’m sure she didn’t have the benefit of today’s advanced treatment or medical insight. I’m reminded of my own chronic (and often debilitating) health issues that involved years of searching for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. My heart hears between the lines and sends cooling vibes to you. 💜
Thank you so much, Sharlene. I’m so sorry that your cousin didn’t have disease modifying therapies available; they make such a difference. I hope you are receiving wonderful care so that you can feel your best. I appreciate your insight and kindness. 🥰
I am glad you are sharing your experiences and taking care to give your body and mind what they need. For those of us who know little about MS, you are teaching what we can do to make life less difficult for those who suffer from it.
I don’t know quite what to say. I certainly learned more about MS and heat. My sister had MS and, well I can’t say much more except that it was heat that impacted her at the most.
I think I would feel scared, but also very sad that my body does this. Thank you for writing and telling us about this. Take care of your beautiful self.
Thanks so much, Rebby. It has its fearful moments, and some sadness at times. But I’m so grateful to know the diagnosis, and to receive it in a time that there are many disease-modifying medications available. Those have only become available in the last 20 years or so. Very blessed, indeed. Take care of your lovely heart too. 🥰
Thank you so much for sharing this! What a frustrating thing to have to deal with. And I agree… it’s a relief to be assured your symptoms are not in your head!
This is an amazing piece, Jacque. You write with such clarity explaining what is happening to you and reading it is a learning experience. I had no idea about this sensitivity to heat. Your writing opens the eyes of those who don’t know and how helpful for us to understand what you and so many deal with. Many of us deal with some chronic thing and sharing that is good for everyone to understand. Your humor and resilience are extraordinary when you consider the frustration that is yours. Thank you for sharing, for enlightening us, and teaching us. I am thankful for your presence in AWR, for your writing, and for the love and support you have around you. I am glad to share in that support as one of your writing partners as we try to put our realities on the page. 🩷
Jacque, thank you for sharing this. I’m in the MS camp too and I have to continually tell people I can’t be out in the heat. You reminded me it is not in my head. Things work differently for me and it’s ok to say no. I’m proud of you for finding the light in this difficult journey.
Jacque, this is so descriptive and I am so sorry that you have this challenge. Thank you for writing and I’m shocked at what I did not know and very annoyed that I have never taken the initiative to learn about this myself. It’s very important we all know, because then we have the ability to help others around us if ever necessary. Also, you are such a generous woman in every way. Thank you for this post.

This is beautifully written, thank you for sharing. The clarity and the closeness to what you describe is palpable.
Thank you so much, Shay Marie. 🥰

Thank you so much, Shannon. It is wonderful to hear from you! Appreciate you so much. I can’t wait to hear more of your writing! 🥰

Thank you for your kind comments, Gesene. It is a weird disease for sure. As most are. Appreciate you. 🥰

Sorry to hear about your sister. Thanks for reading and commenting, Claudia. 🥰

Thank you so much. There’s a lot up in that big noggin of mine, but at least I have that assurance. 🥰
